Recognizing early pregnancy symptoms

The most common symptom of early pregnancy is a late period. After you realize that your friend should have visited by now, you begin to wonder if you could be pregnant.

EARLY SIGNS OF PREGNANCY

1. Spotting- this could sound silly since most women notice they missed their period and that is the first indicator that they might be pregnant. However, about a week after conception the embryo implants itself into the uterine wall which can cause spotting and some cramping.

2. Tender or Swollen breasts- this can occur as early as between one and two weeks after conception. Look for a difference in size and sensitivity to touch.

3. Fatigue- ask yourself if you are abnormally tired. Does your normal daily routine tire you out more than usual? If so you might be experiencing early pregnancy symptoms.

4. Nausea/Morning sickness- this is a common early pregnancy symptom. If you find yourself feeling nauseous from being subjected to certain smells that didn't bother you before or even if certain foods make you naucious you could be experiencing early pregnancy symptoms.

5. Backaches/headaches- frequent lower back aches or headaches can be a sign of early pregnancy.

6. Frequent Urination- about six to eight weeks after conception you can find yourself going to the bathroom more than usual.

7. Darkening of Areolas- darkening of the skin around the nipples can be a sign of pregnancy.

8. Food cravings- can manifest as soon as conception. You may find yourself craving foods that you don't normally consume a lot of.

CAUTION

Beware that many of these symptoms can be caused by other things such as hormone imbalance, stress, depression, impending menstruation, and lack of nutrients. Just because you are experiencing these symptoms does not indicate that you are pregnant. If you are experiencing these symptoms and feel like you might be pregnant take a home pregnancy test or consult with a doctor to confirm.
