The key to MySpace's success lies within their business model. The way they structure what goes on their website, the way they plan out new features and constantly take in user criticisms and feedback to improve on their existing features to see what the masses want. The fact that they actually LISTEN to what the users want, their success lies in this structure.
MySpace is a social networking website that is rapidly expanding on a daily basis. It is a haven on the web for teenagers and adults alike to stay in contact with their friends, talk and even make new friends, although the safety of privacy has been debated, relatively, this is the perfect website on the Internet to be in contact with people from all across the world. The easy structure of the pages and profiles is something that is a main attraction. You can select your top friends, easily upload your images with a simple form and choose from a multiple selection of privacy control for the maximum efficiency of your page.
A feature that attracts millions of hits per day however was the introduction of the 'MySpace Music' section, which allows anyone to create a MySpace music profile and upload their own work to the Internet in hopes of being discovered. However, the immense success of this feature was heard throughout the world which lead to Independent up-and-coming solo musicians such as Davey Dips, and aspiring bands and labels such as Crimson Bile creating a MySpace music page in hopes of going major, all of which are success stories of their own levels with endless futures of super-stardom, the artist in question has been ranked high in the daily MySpace top-artists section for his work as have thousands upon thousands of Independent artists who register on the site. Believe me - That makes a HELL of a difference to the popularity of a musician!
A feature as simple as this, capitalizing on one of the world's biggest industries, that being Music is something that has been the biggest success of MySpace so far, and one that separates MySpace from any other social networking site and ranks it at the top of the list.
Even major artists such as the likes of Ozzy Osbourne, Michael Jackson, Nightwish, many musicians from many eras can be found, the majority of which have managers representing them of course, but can all still be found on the website, some with friends lists and page hits in and above the MILLIONS. Obviously, just the power of a name makes a difference, and the fact that it links to MySpace means success for the website itself! Affiliating with advertisement websites such as Google also means even more ad revenue and even more profit, which means bigger and better features can be implemented in the future, as well as expanding on their current features. As a daily MySpace user, I can safely say that this is constantly happening!
Again, as with most Internet based websites, the key to the successful business model lies in the power of the Advertising schemes. This is something that is becoming increasingly common on the Internet and on websites such as MySpace. However, it is easily the best business model to have!
