SONNET #VIII...DEVILISH FUNCTIONS

I don't think devils are demonic imps,
Who prod us with pitchforks into evil.
Those who think so are a bit of a simp.
That way of thinking is medieval.

"Devils" are forces inherent in life,
A negative condition that's within.
It can show up in kids, husband or wife,
And give you headaches beyond aspirin.

The only way you can combat this thing
Is to wage a battle against yourself.
The only way to end your suffering
Is to put blame and revenge on the shelf.

If you want to know why "devils" appear,
Just take a long hard look in your mirror.
