Being unequally yoked can create more problems than people can see in the beginning of their relationships. In the beginning, it is mostly attraction, it isn't until later that we begin to see people for who they really are.
When people talk about being unequally yoked I smile as I remember the choice I had to make. I had to decide whether or not to choose Christ Jesus as my husband. When I got saved, I was married. I did not know that when I gave my life to the Lord, I would then become unequally yoked.
My husband and father of my daughter was NOT a Christian and did not want anything to do with it. In fact, it was quite the opposite. His response to me was, "Don't go around preaching or talking about God all the time because I do not want to hear it".
Those words were devastating for me. Even still, the love that I felt for Jesus was stronger than the love that I felt for my husband. Sure, he went to church with me, we had our daughter baptized but what was a new way of life for me, was just a show for him. The marriage went downhill and subsequently ended.
I do not believe that one must date somebody that only goes to their church. There are many churches but Christian churches have one common belief, and that is the belief in Jesus Christ. Sure, they may differ in their interpretations somewhat but the one thing they all have in common is Jesus. As long as a couple can find a common ground and glorify Him in their relationship as well as follow the rules that God has set forth for their relationship, then I do not believe they are unequally yoked.
There is also a such things as being unequally yoked with someone who is of the same faith as you. I prayed for a Christian husband, I should have been more specific. I found him, got married, he proclaimed the love of Christ but eventually the truth would be revealed about his perversion and this marriage ended as well. You know the saying, be careful what you pray for.
This experience taught me much about human nature, pressure, but most of the importance of really getting to know somebody before you commit to them. You can if you pray and are faithful find the one that your are supposed to be with that has the same beliefs, dreams, and moral values as you do.
Jesus is the way, the truth and and the life. When two people believe in Him, then they are not unequally yoked. After all of my faults and failures, I feel truly blessed that the Lord has seen fit to provide me still with the one He had planned for me all along. If people pray and wait on the Lord, you will not become unequally yoked.
