The top historical sights to see in San Diego, CA

Visiting San Diego is one of the top destinations for my husband and I. San Diego is the place where we take our children as well as our favorite romantic destination. You can not leave San Diego with Point Loma Lighthouse, and all of the unwritten history has to be explored for each historic building. The historical sites of San Diego are the best kept secret of California, secrets that are meant to be told.

In the most resent years, I, like many other travelers, writers and ghost story enthusiast have taken an interest in historical hotels, buildings and the possibility of a haunting or two. The curiosity of knowing if there is "something else" out there drags me to historical places for a glimpse at the unknown as well as pleasing my love of historical architecture and stories behind the long standing buildings.

In my most recent visit with my husband in San Diego, he was wonderful and allowed me to fill my short drive from Arizona with historical buildings and ghost tours. The possibilities were endless and I knew that no matter what I we did that weekend I would finally spend time in the Whaley House and see if that the US Government considers one of the most haunted buildings in America was all that I had heard. Upon our arrival, we quickly checked into an old hotel turned Bed and Breakfast in Chula Vista. Downtown Chula Vista has a feeling of old time California. The Bed and Breakfast was beautiful and had the most wonderful home cooked breakfast in the morning on the patio of a building built in the 1920's.

The first morning we drove out to Coronado and saw the beach front hotel icon, The Hotel Del Coronado. We walked the length of the beach to get to the hotel and like a perfect painting the hotel slowly emerged from the morning fog. The beautiful historical architecture came into site and I could not wait to get inside and see all of the beautiful woodwork and art I saw on television, not to mention attempt to see if "Kate" the resident deceased would show herself . Without question justice is not served by simply viewing this majestic hotel on television regardless of travel documentary or channel you watch. The character of the old wood and the genuine charm of the old hotel remain long after some of her most famous guests have moved on. Kate was never seen, the hotel was so busy it was almost impossible to even stop long enough to really look to see if she was present. In fact, the hotel owners have kept so true to her architecture and history, even
