No, our government should not stop subsidizing all energy sources.

It should stop providing subsidies to companies that produce non-renewable resources.

Meanwhile, every tax dollar from gasoline and electricity, from the sale of cars and heating and air conditioning equipment, and every tax dollar from every energy producing company, should go toward developing and implementing sources of renewable energy.

America has a reputation as a country of innovators, technological wonderkins who can do anything. One of the few things America still produces is technology. Yet we aren't putting our wealth and resources, our innovations, and our brilliant scientific communities to work on a problem that generates massive pollution, wars upon wars, and large fluctuations in our economy.

I've given up trying to figure out whether it's slow moving, dull-witted inefficiency at work here, or big energy conspiracy, or that there really aren't any good alternatives. It doesn't matter. If there aren't any, we better make one, the smallest chance of success is better than none. As for government stupidity and corporate greed, maybe we should take a look in the mirror at the people who allow it. There are a lot more of us than there are of them.

If any issue is important enough to subsidize out of the collective wallet, alternative energy is.
