I suppose the real question is "Who will Conservatives and Republicans in general support for 2008?" Nobody knows the answer this early in the election process. Or so I thought, before today.
Recently, I have seen Mike Huckabee on Christian programming on several channels. He wrote a book concerning personal responsibility and integrity; two concepts very important to Conservatives and Evangelicals. His candidacy is already gaining traction in the the Iowa caucus. This morning he is in a statistical dead heat with front-runner Mitt Romney. Clearly his star is rising.
Who these "neo-cons" anyway? The title appeared this millennium. It was used as a derogatory term for Conservatives and Christians who voted in large numbers and were responsible for the defeat of Al Gore. Historically apathetic, the conservative branch of the American people were so outraged by the scandals and excesses of the Clinton Administration they went out and voted against him in 1996; and failed.
They were out-organized, outspent and outmaneuvered at every turn. The result was four more years of morally questionable leadership - in their opinion. They learned a good deal from that failure and motivated their base at the grassroots level. The result was the end of the Democratic run in the White House.
Who are the Conservative going to support in 08? That's nobody's business but the voter's. That's why they put curtains on the voting booth. But If i were to place a bet today, I'd keep an eye on Huckabee.
