Mr. Giuliani has been associated with many issues that could hinder his chances in winning the 2008 primaries. First of all, family values organizations have indicated they could not support a candidate who is pro-abortion, and one who had been married three times. They
weren't thrilled to see photographs of Mr. Giuliani wearing a dress, either.
Second, Mr. Giuliani's major strategy has been his involvement during September 11th, and that he is the ideal candidate to deal with "The War on Terror". The facts are that Mr. Giuliani's role as mayor during that tragedy has been under a great deal of scrutiny. The reviews of his performance have been criticized by many New Yorkers; especially New York City firemen and policemen-neither of whom will endorse his candidacy. In addition, this issue has now taken a back seat to our nation's economy as the first concern of most voters.
Third, there is a great deal of difference between being mayor of a city and President of the United States. Mr. Giuliani has had little experience in foreign affairs, or dealing with matters that affect the lives of three hundred million people.
Fourth, his unwavering support of his former police commissioner, Bernard Kerik-who had just been indicted for income tax evasion-brings Mr. Giuliani's ability to appoint the best people for important federal government positions into serious question.
Finally, Mr. Giuliani's campaign strategy appears to be backfiring. He barely registered
among voters in the Iowa and New Hampshire primaries, and recent news reports indicate he is running low on money. He no longer is even considered to be a front-runner; lagging further behind Huckabee, McCain, and Romney.
Unless he makes a strong showing in the next several primaries, Mr. Giuliani will have to reconsider his career options.
