Idea meandering through my mind,
Like a recurring mantra changing only in word
Never in premise.
Idea eternal never absent
Still causing me to ponder
What if...
What if just as the invisible to the human eye atom
We are tiny specks of humanity
Barely visible to some larger entity
Looming over us in the physical sense
A race of living Gullivers
To our Lilliputian existence,
Might they accidentally stomp out our lifeblood
Leaving behind an unnoticeable blot on some sidewalk
Of a size we cannot comprehend.
Without malice
As we unknowingly crush an ant
What if
Insignificantly we are blown through life
As mere specks within the wind
And what if after death
It is as if we were not here
As if we had not existed
Not lived out our years within our space
On our planet Earth
What if
After a lifetime of endeavoring to make a difference
Bettering or achieving fame or wealth
Or simply fulfilling our own desires
We leave emptiness behind
What if as the struggling ant
We have absolutely no effect
Conversely
What if
Instead
One among us commits one random act of human kindness
The resulting effect of which ripples to reach many
Happiness, caring, offering a hand to the fallen
Just a single act of giving
Not expecting any compensation
Extending a bit of hope to another
Unselfishly, not seeking recognition before we go
What if
Instead of the nothingness
A trace of kindness could be left behind...
