Let us look at this perspective. Professional sports is a means of entertainment. Ask yourself, how many actors and actresses have had some type of plastic surgery, or body augmentation? Why do they do this? For the sake of entertaining. Professional sports is no different. Athletes are paid tons of money to keep the seats filled, fans screaming, tickets and jerseys selling. The fans want this. As we as a society become more advanced, so do our expectations. We have seen athletes in the past and what they've accomplished. It only excites us for but so long, until we want more. Faster runners, stronger hitters, higher jumpers, that is what we want, more, more, more. When you become a professional you understand that your lively hood depends on an increased demand for what you bring. Of course there is an increased health risk with steroid use. Let us go back to the comparison with the television and film industry. What type of risks are involved with plastic surgery? Plenty risk is involved. However, it is a calculated risk. With proper supervision and regulation it is a risk that more that half of Hollywood is taking. This same concept can be applied to steroids. Regardless, as time goes on and the demand for excitement and fan satisfaction increases, more and more "approved" drugs will make their way into professional sports. And it is all for the sake of entertainment.
