One thing that has always been taught to me in my life is eventually you have to be personally responsible for what you do. Take pride in what you do and make sure that you know what you do is what people hold you to. The one thing that has seemed to be overlooked in all of this, is that at some point Michael Vick had to choose what to do.
A persons upbringing helps to set in certain values and ways of living. But upbringing alone should never dictate who you will become. Nobody is exactly like their parents or the neighborhood where they come from. Especially if they have gone beyond it and expanded their knowledge of the rest of the world. Somehow most people move on from some of the inherent aspects of their childhood and adolescence.
Personal responsibility is how you become a better person. To take pride in what you do and be the one who states, good or bad, that I do this is a sign of actual maturity. Until Michael Vick was cornered and had no way out, he was innocent. But after his friends, the ones he was going to defend til the end, flipped on him, he had no knowledge of and no experience with the dog fighting on his property. Part of my problem is that if you did something and got caught, just please be honest. While I might not condone what you have done, your honesty and admittance is greatly appreciated. Forgiveness is one of the best traits of human beings.
Michael Vick deserves whatever is coming to him. I just hope he doesn't make a major plea deal to get out of learning a real lesson. Nothing in this world should ever be taken for granted. There is absolutely nothing you do that does not affect you somehow. His shiftiness and shadiness surrounding this issue is a complete look into who Michael Vick is as a person. Stand up when you do wrong and admit it. I would have more respect for him as a person than I could ever have now.
