Geico stands for Government Employee Insurance Company and was originally used by military personnel and DOD (Department of Defense) employees. I first became acquainted with Geico 20 years ago when I finally got my first drivers license and car while stationed at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma. An army friend recommended the company to me because they also provided overseas insurance for military personnel. At the time, Geico was one of the few American car insurance companies to do so. I chose Geico not only because of the overseas insurance but because they offered military personnel a discount including discounts for safe driving, renewal and full time students.

Military personnel do not make a lot of money in the lower ranks, so I was grateful for the discounts. I did some checking around and perused through magazine articles at the library. I found several written about Geico plus Consumer Reports, a magazine that tests and evaluates products and services gave Geico high ratings. The report stated that Geico had the best record of all the insurance companies tested for paying out after an accident. They were ranked high in other categories as well including price, service and payment terms. All of this impressed me so I chose Geico. I had never even heard of Geico prior prior to being stationed at Fort Sill. Today, they are almost a household word.

I've been with Geico for almost 20 years now and have had good service, reasonable prices and easy payment terms. I would rate their insurance as AAA. I have no complaints.
