The news media loves to feed on hype and spread panic to sell more ad time and space.
The oil industry is a huge conglomerate that uses the open market to set prices, but
is more than happy to feed the media with stories, rumors and dare I say falsehoods
to sell their product. Tension in the Middle East as a news story, helps gas prices rise.
A popular new electric car in the works as a news story, the gas prices fall. A reported
huge storm going to hit Central America and gas prices rise. A blurb about American
SUV owners are increasingly dumping their gas guzzlers for more fuel efficient cars,
prices drop.
Car manufacturers (like GM and Ford) and Big Oil have been in bed for years, they
have enjoyed their relationship. But high gas prices have caused plant shut downs which
is predictably starting to cause a major rift.Big Oil has been buying up and taking over
contracts for the next era of energy used in cars. Big Oil companies want to run the
infrastructure for hydrogen run cars. This will keep them rolling in bloated profits. They
will use the media to advertise (through commercials and fake news stories and tips)
how they are out to help the American Consumer. The Media puts a spin on the story
and all is well in Middle America where energy costs matter.
The truth that the Media fails to show us are in stories like:
1. If we all had an electric car as a second car, we would not need to rely on foreign oil.
2. We have more than enough untapped oil in the Middle of this country and Alaska, that
we would not need foreign oil.
3. The technology for an electric car is so advanced and constantly and technologically
evolving that we would not need foreign oil at all.
Why does the Media not report any of this? They get Ad money from Big Oil. They don't
want to lose that revenue. Mobil does not just run gas stations they have a long line of
diverse businesses attached to their corporation, as does Exxon and the others. All of
these businesses and their subsidiaries pay a lot of money to the Media. So they in fact
hold the Media in their pocket at their beck and call.
Gasoline should cost no more than $1.18 a gallon. Big Oil knows this, their profits show it.
But until the Media puts Big Oil under a bad light, we will pay $3-$4 a gallon. And that will
NOT happen anytime soon.
