Non-traditional weddings: Alternatives to the traditional wedding procession

It is traditional for a wedding procession to consist of the matron of honor, the best-man and flower girls, however if you are getting married then you may want to step out of the traditional wedding mold and opt for something more alternative.

The following are some ideas that can guide you towards finding a more unusual choice that you will be preferable to your personal taste.

1. Perhaps there is a tradition that comes from your particular cultural background which would mean allot to you and your family?

Researching what is appropriate for your faith and past family history, and that of your spouse to be, can add an individual style to your wedding and set it apart from others.

2. It may be that instead of choosing individuals as part of the procession you would like all of your guests to take part!

3. You may like to walk a short way to where your wedding is to take place with all of your guests behind you accompanied by wandering minstrels playing music.

If you are following a medieval theme them you could have jugglers juggling and performers performing along-side you and your guests entertaining you.

4. If your wedding doesn't have a particular theme but you are going for elegance then you could have a violinists playing as you walk along or even a full orchestra lining the street that you will walk through.

Perhaps you are from a seaside town and would like to get married at the end of a Victorian British pier. Your procession could be accompanied by a bold brass band to help your guests march to the end where you will be wed.

Another musical idea, if you are highly alternative and modern, is to have street artists, both musical and mime in style, to join in with the procession to your destination.

5. A very different choice for an animal lover is to have their pets in the procession. Some venue organizers will love this, and others will not so it is best to find out before you make plans.

6. When it comes to singling out the father to accompany the bride it may be thought that the mother is being left out. Therefore some brides and grooms are now having both sets of parents involved in the procession so that everyone is included.

7. finally, you may have had someone in your life who means allot to you who you would like in the procession as a sign that they are special.

This may be someone who you are unrelated to who has bought you up, or a particular friend or relative who has been there for you when you needed them most. Including them will show everyone that they have been an important part of your life.

Wedding processions can be both stylish and fun, or downright bawdy and mischievous. Which will you choose?
