Fall wedding theme ideas

Although many weddings are held during the spring and summer months, the fall is also a great time during which to host your wedding. Because fall marks the transition from the "warm" tones (i.e. reds and yellows) of summer to the "cool" tones (i.e. blues and purples) of winter, this season will definitely give you plenty of options when it comes to your wedding color palette and dcor.

During the fall, the leaves on trees will slowly change colors before falling during the winter. Changing leaves can range in color from red to purple to brown. Incorporating these colors into your wedding dcor will undeniably give your reception a fall feel. You can use these colors in your bridesmaids' dresses, your groomsmen's ties, and all throughout your reception, including the linens and mood lighting.

COLOR
Color palettes essentially unify your wedding. It would not make sense to have a "fall" themed wedding with pastels. Fall colors are usually deep, rich, and vibrant. Keep in mind, however, that if you go overboard with the colors, your may be working against the overall "fall feeling" effect. Stick to a couple of rich fall colors for accents and neutral tones for your base. For example, rather than overloading your guests with vibrant red tablecloths and purple napkins, consider using a more neutral brown or khaki for your tablecloths and make your napkins "pop" with a deeper hue. You can also use some metallic colors, like gold, in your color palette to serve as accents. Neutral linens with vibrant napkins and gold china would undeniably produce a distinctively "fall" feel inside your wedding reception venue.

TEXTURE
During the fall months, the weather (in most areas) will change considerably and become cooler. Textures are a great way of inducing a "fall feeling" without going overboard. While summer weddings might include table linens which are airy and light, fall linens should have a heavier look and feel to them. Quilted tablecloths are a great way to incorporate some of the fall "thickness" to your reception. You can also use velvet or satin to achieve this more intense look.

DETAILS
Smaller details in your wedding dcor can also help you create an overall fall feel. A very important aspect of the fall season is harvest. Traditionally, agricultural crops are harvested during this season. The possibilities are endless! You can use cornucopias for centerpieces rather than the traditional floral arrangements. Or, bring some of the outdoors inside with bunches of wheat or tree branches.

LIGHTING
Lighting is another great way to help you get a fall feel to your wedding. Use various fall tones like purples, reds, and golden yellows to light up various areas within your reception venue.

Overall, having a fall themed wedding is a great idea. The variety of hues in the natural world will undeniably give you a wide range of colors to choose from and incorporate in your palette so that your wedding reception reflects the season.
