Everything you read below this one paragraph was written in Nov. of 2007. Now, as I write this paragraph, it is March of 2008. Though things have changed a lot since then I still stand by my original premise, that if Hillary gets the nomination, she will pick Bill Richardson for a running mate. Other than that, how weird that Giuliani, the used-to-be presumptive nominee, was replaced by Mcain. I'm not voting for Mcain, but I like him as a person. Huckabee is a funny guy with some major Southern Baptist mojo working, but Mcain won't pick him to be veep.

As of this writing, with the primary campaigns in full swing, Hillary Clinton, despite recent losses in the polls, seems destined to be the Democratic candidate. On the Republican side it's more a wild-card draw, despite the constant media pundits who claim that Rudy Giuliani is the only candidate who can beat Hillary in a general election.
The reason Giuliani does well against Hillary, according to the pundits, is because most of these media darlings are based in D.C. or New York City. When will they ever learn that fly-over country is where the presidency is decided. And I'm not just talking about the famous conservative talk-radio crowd of the nation's heart-land. There are plenty of well informed liberals, progressives and centrists between the coasts and most of them, if pressed on party affiliation, would probably claim to be independent. The expert commentators, as usual, continue to squawk like overfed parrots. The difference being: at least parrots know that newspapers, like polls, are only good for a day or so, to be shat upon, and then discarded.
So, let's run down the Republican list of front runners at the moment, with a brief comment on each as to why they will never be president:
-Giuliani: when the people in fly-over country see this man they see the mafia, even though Giuliani was the U.S. attorney who fought the mob. By association this slick-talking lawyer will need more than being mayor of NYC on 9-11 to save him. Maybe another terrorist attack before the election will do?
-Mitt Romney: America will not elect a Mormon president at this stage in it's history. This religion is still too strange and unknown to non-Mormons. Most voters either don't know enough about it or think it's a cult.
-John Mcain: He SHOULD be the nominee, because he has the most points on character and he's a war hero, but Republicans are shunning their most electable candidate, so far. What a shame.
-Fred Thompson, Mike Huckabee
