What to look for when buying dolls for your tween girl

My niece's, ages 7 and 9, aren't really into the typical dolls anymore. When I was young-all I did was play with Barbie's and baby dolls. But it seems little young women don't want to play with just any old doll anymore. I have noticed at birthday parties and such, all the other tween girls get each other themed dolls. Now if I didn't really know what I was talking about, I would think of things like a Water Baby or Holiday Barbie. But for tweens now-a-days, anyone that is a doll and on the Disney Channel or in a Disney movie is a good choice. Especially anything Miley Cyrus, a.k.a Hannah Montana. She is HUGE right now! The BRATS dolls are also pretty up-and-coming. They are a standard Barbie-but with hip new style "Brat Fashion" and they each have their own look. Different colors of hair, skin, and eyes-so they are very unique. Another fun doll that my niece's and their friends really enjoy is the "American Girl Dolls". They have a bunch of baby dolls and toddler dolls that are clothed from the early 1900's-I believe. They have really cute outfits and you can also get them in your tween's size so she can match. The dolls can have a dog or a horse, etc. and the product is very affordable-a couple dollars more then your local Wal-Mart, but good quality items. So in summary, stick to a doll with some kind of background to your tween girl's life. If she is really into animals-get her a doll that looks like her that has the same animal as she does-American Girl Dolls. But if she is just crazy about the Disney Channel-get her a doll from one of her favorite Disney Movie. You can't go wrong.
