GIFT SUGGESTIONS FOR BEAR CUBS AND WEBELOS
The Bear Cubs is for third graders, approximately age eight. As the oldest Cub Scouts, Webelo boys are more advanced and skilled than the others. Boys in fourth and fifth grade, about ages nine and ten, are ready for some activities that would not be appropriate for the younger boys.
Also, by this point, you should have a pretty good idea of what area of Scouting your cub enjoys the most. Again, I group these two packs together because toys are categorized frequently as appropriate for age eight to eleven. The following gift ideas will be age appropriate for either Bear Cubs or Webelos:
1. Fishing Pole, Tackle, and Tackle Box
2. Walkie Talkies with longer range
3. Standard Folding Chair
4. Globe and/or Maps
5. Toy Crossbow
6. Microscope
7. Telescope
8. Kid's Gardening Tools
9. Cooler with Built-In Radio
10. Waterproof Camera
11. Portable/Foldable Picnic Table
12. Airbed for Kids
13. Weather Monitoring Device
14. GPS device for Bike
15. Rescue Mirrors and Signals
16. Kid's Snowshoes
17. Compass/Watch
18. Canoe with Lifejacket and Paddles (obviously to do with an adult)
A final tip I can give is to try to combine the more practical gifts with some that are just fun. For example, if your cub needs a backpack, fill it with fun stuff like the walkie talkies and binoculars. That way, he isn't going to say, "Oh, a backpack," with little enthusiasm. If the backpack is filled with other things that he enjoys you will get a bigger response.
These gift suggestions will get you started thinking about what to get your little cub. If you are like me, you are probably tired of getting action figures, cars, or other popular toys, year after year. Using something that you know your child already enjoys, such as the Cub Scouts, as a springboard for creating your Christmas shopping list will help you avoid the trap of getting the same old stuff that is unlikely to hold his interest for very long.
