Holiday sports gift ideas for teen girls

Finding the right gift for a teen girl can be a daunting task. Let alone if she is an athlete or is really into sports. There are a few things you need to know before you start shopping. What are her likes and dislikes? Does she play a specific sport? If so, what equipment is needed for peak performance? If not, what sports does she like in general? These are just a few questions to consider.

1.) Lessons or Classes.

Let's say your daughter is a cheerleader as is the case for my niece. A month of tumbling classes is an excellent choice. The typical cost is about $30 a month for a weekly class. The cost may vary depending on skill level. It will help improve her skills and hopefully be enjoyable at the same time.

2.) Equipment.

There are some sports where the athlete has to provide her own equipment. If this is the case for the teen sports enthusiast on your list this can be a hindrance for parents who can't afford it. You can either buy the equipment for her or give her a gift certificate or gift card to a place like Lady Footlocker. Not only will it make her happy, but her parents will be very grateful as well.

3.)Memorabilia.

Memorabili a is one of the greatest gifts to give. It is probably one of the most overlooked gifts for girl athletes also. This can and most likely will be an expensive venture. Therefore, beware of fabulous fakes! So, if you come across someone selling an "authentic" autographed Mia Hamm soccer ball or Michael Jordan framed jersey for $20, Don't Buy It! It's a fake. Take a little time and do some research to find genuine products. You'll be glad you did.

4.) Encouragement.

Perhaps the most important gift to give is encouragement. The saying, "sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me" is a fallacy. Words have so much power. Words can uplift and inspire. They can also demean and destroy. Tell your teen girl how much you admire her tenacity and desire to play sports. You can even write it on fancy paper and frame it.

Whenever she gets discouraged she will remember your words. And your words will inspire her to be the best she can be in sports and in life.
