oxygen therapy is not cheap but with some checking around and finding out where and who has the least expensive means of supplying this essential health item will save some money. Great tips on buying home o2 therapy equipment are yours simply by typing in O2 therapy equipment in Google's search engine box. In fact the information was so inclusive that I had to pick and choose which I could read in a limited amount of time. There are several different brands and each of course has its own tips and reasons for being the one you should select. For this you will have to check the sites to fit your particular needs. Yet, the best advice may come from your health care professionals. They will have dealt with problematic equipment and may have some good tips on the best methods of purchasing Oxygen therapy needs.

By far the best overall information for tips came from The Australian Lung Foundation. From it you can learn about oxygen, why it is necessary, what lung conditions warrant its use, when it is helpful and when it isn't, how to administer it, methods of administration, how to tips on the equipment, and even how to travel with oxygen, and the most important of all, the safety concerns of using oxygen therapy.

The kind of equipment one should buy depends on how long it will be needed. A less expensive piece of equipment could be bought or rented if it was going to be used only for a few weeks or a month or so; but if the intended use is for chronic conditions that may call for periodic o2 use over a period of years, then a more reliable piece of equipment should be considered.

These conditions are chronic obstructive pulmonary disease; Cystic fibrosis, Bronchiectasis, and others. Before o2 therapy is considered, there must be need. A patient that is short of breath or have associated conditions that may make breathing difficult but when carefully examined shows adequate blood o2 levels will not benefit from oxygen. In fact, it may worsen the condition.

When o2 therapy is needed, a prescription is written telling how much is needed and when it is to be used. This should be followed carefully. Under no circumstances should it be increased or decreased without the doctor's consent. The equipment used to supply the needed oxygen varies. Most commonly these are in "the form of gas in cylinders that come in many different sizes; as a liquid in a container, or by use of an oxygen concentrator".

Compressed Gas:

Pressurized gas in a cylinder that has a flow regulating device.
