According to an Article written in the Wall Street Journal. A study by the Pepperdine University has shown that the death penalty is a deterrent. The study spanned from 1979 to 2004 and it analyzed the executions in one year to the number of murders the following year. They found that for every execution in one year, the following year had 74 less murders. That is a 74:1 ration. Look it up in the Wall Street Journal. Now, that is just on the record. Can you change a serial killer. Do you think Dahmer could have been helped? What about the kids that are killing each other over dime bags? How about the wife beaters and child abusers? Imagine if they knew that the system was really out to stop them. They might just think twice about picking up that gun. Three Square meals a day and a bed is not a bad trade off to the high life on the street, but Death is. Mumia Abu Jamall has been on death row for over 25 years. My father was a police officer in Philadelphia at the time of his shooting. Believe me the evidence is over whelming. Now over the past four weeks five police officers have been shot, One is dead. Over the past year and a half two officers have been killed. In Philadelphia alone we are reaching 400 homicide victims. Pennsylvania has executed only three people in the last 30 years. And the executed each personally asked to be put to death. I firmly believe that if we had a more strict judicial system and aloud these criminal's less appeals. The murder rate would be much lower. Studies have shown across the globe that capitol punishment is a deterrent. I have heard the other sides argument. Whenever I am asked, "Do you believe it is OK to take a life for a life". I always respond with," If it could possibly save another".
