There have always been two types of restaraunts in Baltimore. The obvious: the chains serving up loud dining rooms, with monotonous, benign menus. The cultural norm: the corner dive bar - the kind of place where a cheap beer fuses with a few crabs and a stomach ache. In the past weekend, a number of investors have sought to change that.
After exiting Interstate-83 onto Eastern Ave. diving straight through Little Italy (a staple in every major city) there can be found a subtly nuanced new restaurant located on Central Ave. It is called Lemongrass and specializes in an eclectic selection of Thai foods. From the steamed dumpling, to the crispy duck, to the array of spicy noodle dishes, it is delightfully prepared and appropriately presented. The food will draw the attention of the palate undoubtedly, but the decor of this hip and sexy new hot spot, will surely bring you back.
The minds behind the previously successful Lemongrass in Annapolis, Maryland have modernized the ambiance and adapted the stylistic approaches of many swanky dowtown Los Angeles restaurants.
In a city that has been known to provide a small taste of "hon" hospitality with crabs, crabs, and more crabs - Lemongrass has opted instead to shatter the commonality of the metropolis. Dim lights, contemporary music, and a zen-like mellowness exude the confidence of New York and L.A. while inviting the folks of Baltimore to enjoy a soulful meal. With one visit, a Lemongrass mojito and a bowl of the spicy Lemongrass soup, there will assuredly be reason to return in Baltimore.
