Often when we think of gift ideas for girls, sports are not in the picture. But, that should not be the case, as more and more girls are interested in sports. There are now more team sports for girls, which means more girls participating in sports. Even girls that are not playing sports seem to be more interested in sports. Those that once may have had no interest in football, or baseball, now enjoy watching it, and even joining fantasy leagues. This opens up the sports market for buying gifts for girls, much like for boys. Here are a few suggestions of sports gifts that you can purchase for teen girls.

1. Sports Equipment. There are several sports that girls are involved in, and each one has its own equipment. You can buy the equipment that your teen girl will need to play the sports that she chooses. Some common sports for girls are volleyball, soccer, softball, and basketball. Make sure to check and see what equipment may be needed, as some of it can be very expensive, and you don't want to buy what they already have. Get a gift receipt, especially if you purchase something of considerable value. Some suggestions for equipment include: practice balls, pads, shoes or cleats, bats, and gloves.

2. Sports Memorabilia. Sports memorabilia makes for a great gift. There are plenty of options available, and plenty of sources to find memorabilia. Pictures, posters, and trading cards are all reasonable options. If you want something a bit more expensive, try autographed memorabilia. Baseballs signed by A Rod, or soccer balls signed by Mia Hamm can be found online. You can also get pictures autographed by various athletes. With the internet as a source, any athlete's memorabilia, no matter how obscure they may be, can be found and purchased. Make sure, if you are buying any autographed merchandise that it is certified as authentic. There are thousands of scams out there, and autographs are one of the easiest to perpetrate.

3. Team Jerseys and Other Clothing. If your teen girl has a favorite team, a jersey, sweat shirt or tee shirt would make a great gift. There are plenty of places available to buy this type of gift, from Foot Locker to Steve and Barry's. You can buy both professional and college apparel. Professional jerseys can be bought a star's name on the back. One word of caution: make sure you get the right team, and the right athlete. If you choose the wrong one, it may never be worn!
