What to look for when buying rotisserie chicken at the store

It's 5pm and your work day has finally come to an end. As you grab your belongings and begin to breathe that big sigh of relief you can hear your stomach protesting the lunch you so carelessly skipped over. That sigh then comes out as one of frustration when you realize there are empty cupboards awaiting you at home. In despair you rush over to the local supermarket in search of something filling yet quick to tame those hunger pangs. As you enter those inviting double doors you immediately head towards the deli. It is there you are met head on with the infamous rotisserie chicken. You begin to stare longingly at that tender bird, of which you could instantly devour, but first there are a few considerations to remember to make your chicken feast a pleasurable one.

First and foremost make sure the chicken is fresh. Any quality deli will label their rotisserie chickens with the time and date the chicken was cooked. Keep in mind the earlier to arrive at the deli the better. If you want the freshest and warmest chicken possible it is best to arrive anywhere between 5pm and 6:30pm, when the chickens are most recently cooked.
When plucking your chicken from its roost make sure to find the one with moist skin and plump thighs. A thin, dry bird is a sure warning sign on one who has been overcooked. Once your have chosen that magical chicken make sure you take it home as quickly as possible for the best results.

What is the best part of this quick and versatile meal? Why the leftovers of course. Anything from chicken sandwiches for next day's lunch to pulled chicken burritos for dinner the next evening. No matter how you spin it, a rotisserie chicken is the best way to go for a quick and inexpensive meal.
