How to end animal homelessness

In order to end animal homelessness we all need to practice this simple step ... Spay or neuter your pet! It may sound like it is no big deal and you may think well I may want to breed my pet. Just think of it this way, for every cat or dog that you purchased from a breeder or a pet store there is one that is going to be killed in an animal shelter. That may sound pretty harsh but it is a fact and it is a very sad fact at that.

Around 4 million cats and dogs are put to death in animal shelters across the United States alone each year. Those numbers are startling, but it is a number that we can help reduce. When you choose to adopt a cat or dog go to a local shelter and take a look around there. Did you know that 25% of the cats and dogs in animal shelters are pure-breed? many people do not know this when they are looking for a pure-breed so they choose to look for a breeder.

When you adopt out puppies or kittens to good homes you are taking away a potential home to an animal that is in a shelter. If you would just have your animal spayed or neutered then this could help animals that are already alive and in need of a loving home.

If you see a domestic animal that is homeless in your area, if you have the space in your home consider providing a foster home for them until you are able to find his owner or a good home. So many animals are hit by cars every year when they are roaming around outside. It is such a sad fact that some people just grow tired of caring for an animal that they adopted and just throw them out or dump them off somewhere.

You can make donations to yuor local humane society if you choose to help them with adopting out animals. When people go to shelters or the humane society to adopt an animal they are not able to leave with the animal until she/he is spayed or neutered. It is better for your pet and you. This way it is done and you do not need to make an appointment and bring your pet into get fixed. It is one less worry that you need to think about.

Many times there are puppies or kittens in shelters as well as pure-breeds. Since many of the cats and dogs that go into the shelters are pregnant when they arrive the have their litter right there in the shelter and they then place the babies up for adoption as well as the mom. Of course the shelter takes care of spaying or neutering them before they are placed into an adoptive family and it is the best thing to do for everyone.

When you think about the simple fact that nearly 10 million cats and
