I think that it will cause a depression. People are already driving less. And for people living paycheck to paycheck - it's becoming a big problem. But it's not just gass prices alone that are causing the problem. The housing market crash will be much worse than rising gass prices.
Recipe for disaster!
1 cup: House prices are going up
1/2 cup: Rents are going up
1/3 cup: Gass is going up
1 cup tsp: Health insurance rates are rising
4 tsp: Pensions are going away
1 tsp: Nobody is saving
2 tbsp: Personal debt loads are rising
Throw in a dash of:
* AND WAGES ARE STAYING THE SAME! *
Mix Well
Is a depression coming? YES! Are gass prices the only factor? NO!
But it doesn't help and it definitely hurts every time you go to the pump.
When hybrid cars were beginning to show up in car dealerships - some of them were touting 120 miles per gallon. Where are they now? The best ones only get 60mpg. The fact that solar and electric car technology are being ignored is what will cause a greater impact on the pending depression. I have a friend who is a scientist - she said that they just awarded a 500 million dollar grant to another scientist to study the effects and causes of global warming. That money would have been much better spent helping the solar technology become better - so we DON'T NEED fuel - which is obviously one of the largest human contributors to global warming in the first place. But who doesn't want us to break our dependency on gass? Hmmm...I'll give you one guess!
