It never ceases to amaze me how many people honestly believe that sitting at home surfing the Net can be classified as a "job", and can pay the bills. They even call it "working". Frankly in my opinion, it is impossible to earn a decent living this way, and I have never met one person who has honestly done so.
Of course every little helps, so answering Online Surveys and clicking on emails on PTC (Paid to Click) sites can always help to make the odd extra penny here and there. However, whereas it might pay for the occasional box of chocolates or other treat, it will not settle your mortgage, pay your bills, and give you a comfortable standard of living. After all, if it did, then everyone would be doing it, and the 9.00am-5.00pm "rat race" would have become a thing of the past. Sad fact is, - if you want to earn a decent living you have to work for it, and in my opinion, "working" does not constitute sitting at home in warmth and comfort playing with the computer.
Last year, I joined an Internet site (the name of which doesn't really matter here), where the concept was that people could get together, chat, and make new friends, and also get paid for their input. The pay was minimal (about 4 cents for each post) and I was continually stunned by the number of people who spent all day there, considering themselves as "workers", and getting very excited when they received a paltry $10.00 at the end of the month. How can that be working or earning a living? Eventually I gave up this site completely. For every interesting and fulifilling post and topic started, there were loads of spam posts, just advertising Blogs and referral links from sad people desparate to make their fortune online.
The "opportunities" to earn online and leave the rat race are endless, - well at least according to the scammers who want to charge you $20 or more to join their fool-proof systems of making money on line. Well, in my opinion, no job is a "job" if you have to pay to join it, or just to receive your training materials, which more often than not are just a couple of emails telling you how to scan others in like manner. And surely no one in this day and age is gullible enough to be taken in by this kind of stuff? On the whole, the PTR, PTC and Survey sites are generally more reliable and genuine, but most of them only offer about 5 emails a day which pay something like 0.5 cents per click, - so you do the maths! Who will get rich on that? Of course there is always the subject of "referrals" - referrals make you rich without having to lift a finger they say. Hmmmm - well, even if every person in the online world became my referral on some 0.2 cent PTR site, they would not even pay my grocery bill for a week, let alone allow me to retire.
So in conclusion, I would say a resounding no to the question of whether online gigs can earn you enough money to live. Of course, they do offer a little incentive, and every little helps, but unless you are one of the few people born into a very wealthy family and able to inherit your fortune, I suggest that if you want that mansion in the country, a nice car, endless foreign holidays, and designer clothes - best to start working for it in a "real" job. or at least start looking for a millionaire!
