Is Alex Rodriguez the best player in baseball? What really constitutes a great baseball player. Being able to hit in clutch situations? Capitalizing off opportunities in the playoffs? Being a team player, and doing what is right for your team and always helping them to win any way you can? All of those qualities listed are the qualities of a great baseball player.

To be a great baseball player, most of those qualities must be met. But in A-Rods case, very few are met. During the regular season, A-Rod can come through with some great plays and hit in clutch situations; but the playoffs? The playoffs are a much different story for A-Rod. In the playoffs the past two seasons for the Yankees, A-Rod has done close to nothing. To be the best player in baseball, you have to make a name for yourself in the playoffs; not step up to the plate and have the other team think "easy out."
Being a team player. What does A-Rod care about the team? He's making enough money per year to support almost every family in the city of New York. Why should he care about his team. A-Rod doesn't care whether they win or lose, he only cares that he gets his paycheck at the end of the week. It also seems that A-Rod and the Yankees don't seem to get along very well. Not a few months after he arrives in New York, he's in arguments with Derek Jeter and are harmful to the team and the chemistry of the team. You can't be a great baseball player and not care about the team.
A-Rod is not the best player in baseball, he's far from it, actually. He should start looking at guys like Albert Pujols to base his image off of, and maybe, just maybe, he can be the best player in baseball.
