God said to Adam, do not eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Adam passed the message on to Eve. The serpent told Eve the fruit looked good enough to eat. Eve agreed but remembered Adam said don't eat that fruit. She even told the serpent that if they eat the fruit they would die. The serpent said you won't really die but you will be like God. Eve decided the fruit looked good to eat and ate it and it was good so she shared it with Adam and he ate.
Cain was proud of his garden and when God asked for a sacrifice he gave of his great garden. God didn't accept his offering because it was not what God requested. Cain felt slighted and was angry. God wanted Cain to explain why he was angry when he knew that if he did what he should have it would be accepted. God pointed out that Abel, Cain's brother, did what he was asked and that made Cain more angry and Cain went and killed his brother.
Ananias and his wife Sapphira did what everyone else in the church was doing and sold all that they had but decided between the two of them to keep part of it for themselves. They decided to tell everyone that what they were giving was all that they received. Peter told Ananias that they should have told the truth but they chose to lie.
What all three scenarios have in common is that they knew what was right but chose to do wrong. They are all different in what motivated them to choose to do wrong. Eve saw something good to eat, Cain thought very highly of what he did and wanted it to be recognized, and Ananias and Sapphira received a profit and didn't want to share. None of these things are bad, yet because it went against what was required or stipulated it was wrong.
Satan's method of temptation is to manipulate you into convincing yourself that you are not doing wrong. Eating good fruit isn't wrong unless you have been told not to eat it. Giving fruits and vegetables as offering has been done but if this time the sacrifice is a fatted calf buy a calf. Selling your stuff and giving only half of the income to the church is fine as long as you tell the truth about it.
Satan's device is to manipulate things to appear better than they are. He wants to deceive you into a selfish way of thinking. He will use your appetites against you. He will make the ugly look glamorous, and distort what is evil so you will only see the good. It is up to you to keep the situation in perspective. Satan tempts but he can not make you do anything. Realize that you may fall but you can get back up again.
