Home health is largely predicated on having as many natural, organic materials in your environment, from a structural as well as from a non-structural standpoint.
A house constructed from materials such as adobe or straw-bale, chances are, will be structurally healthier, as compared with that one using processed building supplies that give off greenhouse gases, a by-product of synthetic materials. The same is true for non-structural materials.
Your furniture should be as raw as possible, with as little processing as possible. The recycled business has created many natural furniture types using wood, metals and more from recycled materials. Using a search engine just type in "natural furniture" or "non-synthetic furniture," etc.
Paints, varnishes, thinners are also important in determining whether or not your home has any toxicity, or is all non-synthetic.. There are many websites that sell "non-toxic paints" "non-toxic varnishes" - just use your search engine to find the site that is right for you.
There are also many kinds of natural insulation, such as "recycled blue jean insulation" that are natural as opposed to other kinds that may be less organic.
There are many biodegradable dishwashing detergents that can be purchased at any health food store. The cost slightly more than non-organically based detergents, but the impact on the planet is far more positive.
Pick up a copy of "THE GREEN BOOK -The Everyday Guide To Saving The Planet One Simple Step At A Time" by Rogers and Kostigen. Highly recommended. I give it a ten out of ten. It's easy to read and is full of many cost-free simple things that ANYONE can do, which would make a significant difference - if everyone did at least one thing.
The other furnishings in your house such a curtains, rugs, blankets, sheets, should also be made of cottons or wools, not synthetic fibers.
Then your appliances:
Most electrical objects - TV, radios, computers, telephones; microwaves; stereo equipment, fax machines, etc. give off electromagnetic fields. Go to www.ToolsforWellness.com to check out their great tools that help to detect electromagnetic fields, called the "EMF measurement Tool;"
"The Ultra-Sensitive Radio/Microwave Meter" and the "MicroAlert2." There is also a book that they sell called The Perils of Electropollution. They also sell Circuit-Breaker Diodes; Digital Cell phone Diodes; an assortment of interesting jewelry pendants for EMF protection and well-being.
They have a lot of cutting-edge products to help understand and cope with potentially harmful energies from technological devices that may be around us. Tools for Wellness can send you a free catalogue, or call them at 1-800-456-9887
You can also purchase Ionic Air purifiers at the above site, as well as from any other manufacturer, and there are many out there.
Personally, I've also been leery of microwaves. I have used one in very rare times in my life, maybe ten times in all. Even though I'm told that "they're only like radio waves," I still find it disconcerting because it's so unnatural that a device can zap food and heat it up way faster than is natural, so I've always resisted getting one or accepting my Mom's when she passed away.
