Even though Muslims alone are allowed to join al Qaeda there are clear instructions acquiring the services of smugglers and spies of any religion or target country in order to fulfill the objective of a world-wide Islamic militarism.(13) This all becomes more alarming when we realize that a Muslim from Bangladesh, Fakhrul Islam, was arrested alongside a reputed MS-13 gang member and 11 others after the group waded across the Rio Grande into Brownsville, Texas. This prompted Congressman Solomon Ortiz, (D-TX) co-chairman of the House border caucus, to state publicly that meetings between the two groups have taken place, and that the Mara Salvatrucha have a network for illegal entry into this country that stretches all the way from El Salvador to the U.S. border, and that they may already be smuggling terrorists into our country.(14)

Amongst this quagmire of twenty-first century Homeland Security concerns lies a potentially lethal organization with connections to our number one enemy in the current era. MS-13 is a dangerous gang with little or no concern for the security of the United States or for its citizens. They are known to take money to smuggle illegal aliens into our country through the Mexican border and leaders of this organization have been seen with known al Qaeda operatives. This obvious threat to the security of the country must be appropriately dealt with. The only reasonable solution is to secure the nation's borders whether through a much stronger presence of border patrol or through positioning National Guard troops along the United States' southern border. A failure to recognize the implications of this border concern and act appropriately represents a grave and potentially regrettable oversight regarding United States' Homeland Security.
