is all too real. MS-13 is well known to control many of the smuggling points along the northern Mexican border for importing other MS-13 gang members into the United States. In the age of terrorism this alone presents a serious threat, but there is more to this mixture than one might imagine.

The Mara Salvatrucha gang has attracted much attention due to its smuggling, and arms dealing racket. Intelligence officials in Washington have reported that in July 2004 a key al-Qaeda cell leader, El Shukrijumah for whom there is an outstanding $5 million dollar reward has been seen meeting in Honduras with known leaders of Mara Salvatrucha. El Shukrijumah was among seven suspected al Qaeda operatives identified in May by Attorney General John Ashcroft as being involved in plans to strike new targets in the United States. Ashcroft described El Shukrijumah as "a clear and present danger to America" and that he is suspected to be seeking entry routes into the United States along the U.S.-Mexico border. Mr. Ashcroft noted that increased enforcement efforts were under way in the wake of a rise of arrests of border jumpers from Afghanistan, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Pakistan, the Philippines, Saudi Arabia and Syria.(9)

Other suspected al-Qaeda operatives have been seen meeting with members of MS-13 in El Salvador.(10) This raises concerns that MS-13 may be smuggling Islamic fundamentalist terrorists into the United States.

"This warning that MS13 members have been meeting with al Qaeda operatives is being taken seriously in East Boston, where Raed Hijazi, an al-Qaeda operative charged with training the suicide bombers in the attack on the USS Cole, lived and worked, prosecutors have charged."(11)

Boston police have reported that two MS-13 leaders, whom they deported back to El Salvador a year ago, have again surfaced in Boston, where they were spotted recently on the North Shore.(12)

MS-13 leaders have been seen meeting with al Qaeda operatives in El Salvador and Honduras. Two MS-13 deportees to El Salvador have resurfaced in Boston, but before it begins to sound a little grandiose for a rag tag bunch of international Latin gangsters to sell their services to a hard line group of radical Muslim fundamentalists, we must wonder whether the Jihadist would even tarnish his perceived purity by consorting with criminal infidels.

Fortunately for us a captured Jihadist manual clearly states that amongst its operative plans the need for forged documents and counterfeit currency
