I hear those Sleigh Bells ring-a-ling!
It's winter time and the mountains are calling me to get my skies out!
Having grown up in Michigan I was fortunate enough to be a winter sport buff. Skiing was just one part of the endless winter adventures I recall. It just doesn't get any better or more challenging than skiing in and around the Great Lake Region. From experience, I can tell you about some of the best areas to fulfill your downhill or cross country cravings. The Great Lakes Region is vast, encompassing Michigan, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Ontario for some of the best World Class skiing you will ever encounter. Quaint towns bursting with hospitality welcome you into their winter wonderland with adventures for everyone. Scenic vistas amid the lush forests invite peace and tranquility to all those who visit. Breath in the smog-free air and fill your lungs with crisp scent of the Pines that are native to the Great Lake area. You will be compelled to return many times for this unparalleled ski vacation.
In Michigan, my hometown, there are over 25 Ski Resorts with multiple mountain choices. Michigan was the first state that held national ski jump competitions in the small mining town of Ishpeming. The influence of immigrants entering into Michigan in the 1940's gave way to the well established cuisine and love for sport. Michigan has long since been known for its spectacular skiing and ski jump facilities. One of my favorites has got to be Boyne Mountain. With over 60 years of experience in accommodating the winter sport lover's, Boyne Mountain is a leading destination for outdoor fanatic's. Probably one of the most popularly visited Resorts in Michigan, it includes 61 slopes on 2 mountain peaks. The runs are meticulously maintained and snow conditions are fantastic. Geared for speed or cross country, Boyne Mountain is for every level of winter enthusiast. Ski Packages start at around $90.00 per person which includes lodging and lift tickets. Ski equipment rentals are readily available as is instruction lessons. The Resort offers warmth and comfort in and around its surroundings. Exceptional food proportioned for the hearty appetite will energize you for the next days challenges. So, "Be their guest", as they say and stay at the Boyne Mountain Resort.
Also, in Michigan is another favorite, Crystal Mountain Resort. Ranked #1 in the Midwest by Ski Magazine, this jewel consists of 45 downhill runs and a 375 foot vertical decline. Night skiing is one of Crystal Mountains
