In my opinion, Paris Hilton absolutely does NOT need or deserve to be paid one million dollars to tell her story about her brief jail stay to a TV network. The girl is an heiress, for one thing, so she doesn't really need the money the network is offering. It wouldn't surprise me to learn that Paris Hilton simply viewed the one million dollars being offered to her as "pocket change."
Also, is Paris Hilton's story of spending a minimal amount of time in jail for a DUI conviction really worth one million dollars? Let's face it, NBC wouldn't offer this money to the average person to tell their story about the exact same offense. The only reason the network is even interested in Paris' story is because she's a "celebrity." What exactly Paris is famous for, and why anyone should really care about her personal life, I have never really figured out.
Honestly, I think it would be better for NBC to take the one million dollars they offered to Paris Hilton and find something better to do with it. Why not donate it to a non-profit organization that's connected with drunk driving (such as Mothers Against Drunk Driving or Students Against Drunk Driving)? Or, perhaps, NBC could make take the one million dollars and make a donation to a drug and alcohol rehabilitation center (or maybe even split the one million between several drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers). Or, perhaps that one million dollars could go toward improving the salaries for the writers who work on NBC's shows.
I would much prefer to see NBC do something more meaningful with the one million dollars they offered to Paris Hilton. It would be nice to see the network invest that money toward something that would actually help people. I'm sorry, but a rich, young heiress doesn't need one million dollars to tell a story that doesn't mean much to anyone in the long run.
