Motherhood
Being a mother is the most wonderful, demanding, fulfilling, heart wrenching, job in the world. Yes, I used the word job. All mothers should be able to proclaim it as an occupation on any job application under job experience. Why? Because being a mother gives you real life experience that cannot be duplicated in any classroom.
Employers are looking for employees who have good work ethics and multitasking skills. No 9-5 job can provide you with the multitude of skills that being a mother can. It's the most extensive OJT (on the job training) you will ever receive.
Being a mother gives you first hand experience in a variety of areas that most employers look for:
Multitasking skills
Communication skills
Negotiation skills
Arbitrator skills
Teaching skills
Teamwork skills
Delegation of duty skills
Managerial skills
Time Management skills
Reading skills
And these are just to name a few. Being a mother is a twenty-four hour 365 day a year job with virtual no time off. So if an employer ask, "How many days a year do you take off?" you can honestly answer, "none." If you have ever been a mother you know and understand the truth behind this statement. All mothers know we're not allowed sick days.
No mother should ever feel inadequate when applying for a job. Just remember on your next job application or job interview when you're asked what job skills you have that qualify you to work at company XXX you can begin with the above list. This is by no means a complete list.
Being a mother also develops character traits that are often essential to job placement, things like, patience, fortitude, creativity, diligence, compassion, confidence, and humor to name a few.
Being a mother is the most rewarding job in the world. It is a learned occupation of trial and error. It has its up and downs, its good and bad, but nothing, I repeat, nothing in the world measures up to the experience, rewards, and satisfaction achieved through motherhood.
I know because I am a mother and I cherish that job title.
