lie Satan has laid before them, and they fall for it hook, line, and sinker.
Other people long for peace. Their life is so filled with strife and turmoil that they dread to face another day. Satan then comes along with his little bag of tricks and lays drugs and alcohol in front of them as a means by which they might attain that peace. So they get drunk and do drugs to obtain temporary peace and wake up in the morning with their problems still there, staring them in the face. They do this repeatedly because their problems do not go away, and they can only have real lasting peace from their walk with God.
Second, it was pleasant to her eyes. Satan made the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil look appealing to her. No doubt, Eve wouldn't have eaten the fruit if it looked rotten or nasty; nor would she have eaten it if he told her it would cause all of mankind to fall from the perfect world they enjoyed back then to the wicked, war-stricken, and hate filled world we have today.
Satan uses this method quite a bit in today's society. He will use something that appeals to your eyes to attract you to the sin. He won't show you the car wreck where people were killed because of drunk driving to make you want to drink alcohol. He doesn't show you the frantic teenager that has just been diagnosed with a sexually transmitted disease to make you desire illicit sex. Instead, he will parade some skinny, half dressed model, or some buff football player in front of you during a beer commercial to try and get you to drink beer. Why? Because if he were to show you the bad side of the equation, then you would not be so likely to fall for his trap.
Lastly, it was a tree to be desired to make her wise. This is where he appealed to her pride. He told her, "in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods" Who wouldn't want to be like God? The thought probably flashed through her mind, "I want to be like God!" With pride rising in her chest, she took the fruit off of the tree and sunk her teeth into the biggest mistake she ever made.
Pride has been the demise of so many people. Many people have been influenced by their peers to do drugs or drink alcohol because their pride demanded them to fit in. They think, "What will my friends think of me if I don't go along with them?" The youth of today mocks others who have kept themselves from sex, and many, in order to "be a man" or "fit in with the other girls," have given their bodies away just so they can be like their friends. But if their pride didn't insist that they be like the others, then they wouldn't have fallen for Satan's trap.
The names for the three methods of tempting people to sin can be found in 1 John 2:16. They are: the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life. You might say, "It is hard to believe with all the sin that Satan lures people into today, that there are only three methods Satan uses to tempt people to fall." But, in reality, it is true. Satan only has a handful of tricks, but he has mastered his ways of applying these methods throughout the centuries.
Regardless to how old or young, Satan uses one or more of these methods to tempt people to sin. So, now that you are aware of his methods, watch for them. If you see a sign on the side of the road saying, "Caution! Bridge is Out" you can do one of two things. You can either ignore the warning and keep driving until you plunge off the bridge into eternity, or you can heed the sign and turn around. I hope you would have the intelligence to choose the later. Even so, you can either ignore the signs warning you that Satan is tempting you to fall, or you can heed them and avoid falling into his snare. The choice is yours.
