Obviously the question has left out the qualifying "illegal" since the general theme of this topic is illegal immigrants.

If we were just talking about immigrants who came here by the book, the answer is a no-brainer and it would be: Yes, of course... Because they should be able to be safe havens for anyone being persecuted, threatened, etc. unlawfully. The keyword being unlawfully...

Tracking down and apprehending lawbreakers is, in itself, a lawful act. Illegal immigrants are lawbreakers and they are fugitives while they remain out of custody of law enforcement. Federal law, which supersedes state and local law, says illegal immigrants are committing a crime by virtue of being on US soil.

To that end, policy makers (pastors/priests, bishops, police chiefs, attorney generals, mayors and governors)who condone or turn a blind-eye to aiding and abetting the criminals' avoidance of apprehension and/or providing them safe haven are guilty of crimes and should be held accountable.

The US Attorney General should start at the top in each state where this is going on and indite the Governor, local Mayor, local Police Chief and etc. for the Federal crimes they are committing. In the cases of California and New York it would be 10s of thousands of counts. If they only had to do one day of public service for each count they wouldn't live long enough to finish their sentence. Of course, the performance of their public service jobs would not qualify towards the sentence.
