The best gift you've ever received

the picture by the time I was six. Don't get me wrong, he loves me too; I'm his only child and while I don't know him as well as I should, we've had many a great time together. He is also still a very much-loved friend of my Mums.

Throughout my life there have been many other people who have shown me love. Grandparents, Aunties, Uncles and Cousins. Their love has all been different, but very, very important to me. There are so many people, it would take me a whole novel to write about each and every person, so if you aren't mentioned here, don't think I have forgotten you, I just can't find the words to do all of you justice.

My next gift of love may sound corny, but it was there all the same; or it grew anyway. This was the love of a total stranger who became my Step Dad (S.D). As my Mum and I were a packaged deal, he had to accept me, and he did. Has he regretted it? No, I don't think he has. I have to give him some credit for the person I am today. Sure, it was tough on him, not having had children before, but I still think he did a marvellous job and we are both still alive.

Around the age of eight, Mum and S.D. brought their first child into the world; my baby sister, J. Well, she turned my world upside down. Suddenly, I was not the centre of the Universe any more. Apparently, I was quite dumbfounded by my new role as Big Sister.

This little being was so helpless and demanded a lot of time; time I had previously been given. Well, she grew fast and J gave me the gift of love as only a sister can.

Two years later and another sister came into the world, little S. Her love was just as immense as J's and I believed I was the Queen of the World, and I probably acted it too.

These gifts of love still continue and I consider myself to be very rich with love, if nothing else. I am still very close to those I have mentioned so far, but the journey does not end there, my friend.

Along my life's journey, there have been many friends who have loved me as only a friend can. I believe that I was quite nasty to some of them and make profuse apologies for my behaviour. Many I lost contact with over the years, which is sad, and many are new to my life and I want to get to know them better.

Men have flitted in and out of my life, as only men can, but there have been three who have loved me. The first of these was younger than I, but provided me with great comfort and support for the few months we were together. The second loved me, this I am sure, but still felt
