Who was the best running back of all time? Thats a question that few can answer. There are many things that go into the decision. Growing up in the 90's, I didn't get a chance to see sweetness, Gale Sayers, Jim Brown and OJ Simpson, but i did get a chance to see the greatness of Emmit Smith, Barry Sanders and Thurman Thomas. I was a huge Cowboys fan and I'm still one now so you think I would say Emmit smith. Besides, he is the all time leader rusher and was part of the trio that rocked and rolled over the NFL for three super bowls in four years. He has many rushing titles as well as being named MVP not only in a season, but also in super bowl 28. This choice would be obvious, but I would have to give this honor to Barry Sanders of the Detroit Lions. When you talk about the complete package, you talk about Barry Sanders. The only thing I can find against him was his unsuccessful runs to the super bowl, but that doesn't stop Dan Marino from being considered one if not the best quarterback to ever play the game. Barry turned the position into a masterpiece and he made it look so easy in the eyes of every six and seven year old who all imitated him in the school playgrounds. His style of running combined with god given talent would have put him at the top of the all time rushing list if it wasn't for the early retirement. Time and time again, we have been witness to some of the most explosive runs and some of the most unbelievable bt's(break tackles) that we have ever seen. If you would have put him on Dallas, Green Bay, or San Francisco, he would have gotten at least two rings being paired up with Troy Aikman, Steve Young, Bret Favre, or even being paired with Dan Marino. Does that sound scary or what? In closing, when it comes to raw talent, there's no back that was better than Barry Sanders which gives him the title of the greatest running back of all time. Watch out though, there is this young guy who goes by the initials L.T. and I don't mean Lawrence Talyor.
