Why I Write
There are many reasons why I write and many forms to my writing. Some people may share these reasons or forms of writing and others may not.
The main reason I, or anyone else, writes is for communication. Writing is the easiest way to convey a message or feeling. You can write to someone on the other side of the world about your life, dreams or the cute boy/girl you saw at the mall. For me, writing is my primary means of communication with my family, friends and the world in general. For this I write letters, emails, blogs or even instant messenger services. Why? Because it is cheaper, mostly instant and more convenient for my life style; I am a mother of four little children after all.
I also write to clarify ideas and thoughts, or to remind myself of things I have to do or buy. This writing is done in list or thought bubble' form. It is quick, often random and only a memory-jogging device. I then use it to expand on ideas and thoughts at a later time. This form of writing also benefits my studies by helping to simplify questions, answers and the direction I want my thoughts, ideas and findings to go in.
I write as a stress reliever or as an escape from the pressure of the real world'. These writings are done in many forms; poetry, short stories, articles and many more. They can be fictional or factual, but always personal and from my head and heart. The act of writing helps to calm me, relax me and helps me to gather my thoughts or to vent about what a miserable day I've had.
Writing helps me to tell a story that, verbally, would sound wrong or far-fetched. Again, this is done in many forms and conveys my scattered thoughts and feelings in a way that the reader can better understand and hopefully relate to.
Writing is a passion that has been with me since I was a very young child and is something I can indulge in everyday. It is easy to find a few minutes every day, often more than once a day, just to put words on paper or to reply to an email.
Writing allows me to express my opinions and discuss with people all over the world topics I am interested in and I can be heard'.
I write to document my world and the goings on in it. This helps me and others remember the good, bad and trivial things about me, and that have happened in my corner of the world. Once again, these writings are in many forms.
Personal growth is important to me and writing helps with this. I like criticism, as long as it is constructive, and use it to improve on my own skills. Be sure to let me know what you think of my writing. By reading back through my writings, I am able to see how, over a period of time, I have personally evolved and how my writing has improved.
Finally, I write BECAUSE I CAN. Writing is a gift I have been given and while I'm no professor, I know that I do write well.
