Murder is murder know matter who is doing the killing. It could be you, me, city, county, state, government, or Joe Blow down the street. To take a life is murder. That is probably the most simple definition of the word. My entire life the arguments for it are these. Number one the Bible says "An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth." Another argument for it is "What if it was your child that was killed? "Wouldn't you want some kind of retribution?" These two things are thrown up in my face any time capitol punishment is the topic of conversation. Now I can't denie the fact that the Bible says "An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth." I can't denie it. It is there in black, and white. At the same time I have five children, and yes I would want some kind of retribution if something happened to any of them. I'm not going to say that well God will take care of them as he sees fit, or anything like that. The truth of the matter is that I don't know if God will, or not.
This is what I do know. I know right from wrong, and the old saying that two wrongs don't make a right still echos in my head. If this saying is true then where does our government in any capacity say it is okay to take someones life. Some of you may think that this is a childish way to look at it. I'm sorry you feel that way, but if this saying is beat into our heads as children why does it escape us as adults?
I also know that while the Bible makes the earlier statement it also says to turn the other cheek. So in that aspect while the Bible is regarded as a sacred book it contradicts its self, and neither statement should be a valid argument.
As for the hardest statement that I hear in regards to my children. Yes I would want some kind of retribution, or payback for there crime. I also know that there are other ways of doing it. Most of these murderers don't see there victims as real people. People with hopes, dreams, and families. Maybe our wise leaders in the State, and Federal Governments can devise a way to make them realize that.
There is one other statement in the Bible that should be thought about if you use it as a source for either side of this argument. That statement is "Thou shalt not kill." A very short, and to the point statement if you ask me. No where does it say Thou shalt not kill unless you are in a seat of political power, or anywhere else It just says don't kill. This was a commandment by God to us.
Let me close by saying what I opened this article with. Murder is murder no matter who does the killing. Bottom line.
