The single most necessary step for avoiding relationship strain while planning a wedding is to communicate with your partner. Under most circumstances the details of the wedding are something the bride with or without the help of her mother assumes control. If your future husband is not the least bit interested in color coordination, style of brides maids dresses, and the thousand other myriad details that go into the wedding day ceremonies then do not constantly ask for his opinion. If he has said he will be happy with whatever you choose then just do it. If, on the other hand, the groom is decidedly interested in all facets of the planning then sit down with a calendar, chart, guest list, restaurant options, and varying menu choices and go over them together. Once you have both decided on who will be responsible for which items let your partner do his part. Schedule a review date two weeks before the big day and go over your lists. If either has not been able to accomplish something on their list because of other responsibilities be willing to let go of the item and allow your partner to complete it. Your wedding should be a happy occasion for both of you and being stressed unnecessarily because of petty nit-picking by either party does not bode well for the health of the marriage. It actually is possible to have fun and enjoy your first project as a couple. Remember, hopefully you will be doing this for the rest of your lives and this is just the first of many joyful occasions in your married life.
