Friendship Advice

Relationships defined

I don't have a lot of "friends." I have many people in my life that I would consider close acquaintances and we're friendly, but not "friends." I place tremendous significance on the term and don't assign the title nonchalantly. It is a status earned and my criterion is stringent; love, trust, respect, appreciation.

I truly value my friends. Without them I would find it harder to handle tough times or celebrate joys. I treasure the fact that I can call up a friend when I am troubled and talk through my feelings without being judged. I cherish the opportunity to share wonderful news or exciting happenings with someone who won't be envious or jealous, just pleased to share in my happiness. I respect someone who accepts all my moods, the good and the bad, and loves me anyway.

I appreciate the trust my friends show in me, confiding in me, knowing that what they share stays between just us. They know they can count on me to be there for the lows and the highs in their lives. When they cry, I cry. When they laugh, I laugh.

I have found that friendship is like a favorite sweater - warm, comfortable, familiar. I am so blessed to say I have true friends, both old and new, and I'm thankful for them all.
