Hidden deep within the fog of war, obscured by the accusations and counter accusations about "weapons of mass destruction, the nuclear threat, bringing democracy to the region, and we're fighting them over there so that we don't have to fight them here", one thing is becoming increasingly clear. We went to war, displaced two million Iraqis, killed a quarter million others, lost almost four thousand of our own young men and women, saw tens of thousands more come home maimed and limbless, all because George W. Bush sought to enrich his friends in the Oil Industry.

Any illusions that this war was fought for noble reasons have been dashed against the shores of facts, evidence, and crystal clear motives. All that is left is the inescapable conclusion that George W. Bush is that most cynical of leader. The one who commits our troops in the name of corporate profits.

If you think that I am over stating the case. If you think that I am simply "Bush bashing". If you think this is nothing more than a partisan political rant. Then I would ask you to consider the following: This war was always about Oil. We have no intention of allowing the Iraqis to be truly free and democratic, and we have no intention of ever leaving.
The tragedy is, they no longer are even trying to hide this.

The Embassy that we have built in Baghdad is slightly smaller than the Vatican City. The largest Embassy in the world, it has its own power plant, hospital, among other amenities as well as space to house in excess of one thousand people. In addition, we have constructed four "super sized military bases throughout the country. The largest, an Air Force base has more air traffic daily than every other airport in the world except Heathrow in London England.

Still not convinced? Consider oil.

Currently working its way through the Iraqi Parliament is a piece of legislation, written by American Diplomats, that would cede ownership of 66 of the 80 Iraqi oil fields for the next thirty years. Let me say that again. If this legislation passes (as if the Iraqis really have any choice) American Oil Companies will own over three fifths of all of the oil in the country for the next three decades. Let me be even clearer. They simply would not have the right to drill, they would actually own any oil they extract.

Why, you might ask, would any country give up ownership of the only natural resource they have? The answer is simple; they don't have any choice. Forget democracy, freedom, the struggle for hearts and minds, this entire war has been fought so that the friends of George W. Bush. the very ones who financed his two Presidential campaigns, can seize Iraqi oil. Unfortunately, a by product of this action will be increased, not less, terrorist activities around the world.

George Bush and his friends may well become rich as a result of this war, but the rest of us are condemned to become much less safer.
