Me and Good 'Ole TV
At the start of the work week, the only thing I can think about is getting off work at 4:30 and going home to catch my favorite shows. As soon as I get in the house, I am 10 to 15 minutes into 'Oprah'. By 6pm I have changed the channel to TLC because I want to see how they Flip houses. However, by the third commercial break I become bored and now I have switched over to 'BET' because I am hoping one interesting guest will be on the show. By 7 pm I have changed the channel once again because it's time for 'E News'. Not a fan of Ryan Seacrest, in fact I get really annoyed by the sound of his voice. I still get to catch up on my celebrity news, so I can change the channel again. Now it's 7:30 and I'm watching Jeopardy. I like to pretend I know the answers to some of the questions, so I play along.
8:00 pm: 'Chuck'. I love Chuck. This show is comedic, heartbreaking and fascinating all at once. One of the newer shows which premiered on NBC. It's 9pm now, and I hope no one even think about picking up their phone to call my number. I will not be answering any calls and please do not send me any online messages. I am now glued to the TV because not only am I watching Heroes, but I like a little bit of drama, so in-between commercials I am switching to VH1 to catch pieces of "I Love NY". Yes, I watch that too. This same routine of switching back and forth plays on until 10pm. 10pm I have now moved to MTV because 'The Hills' is on. It's as if I never left high school. It's almost gratifying to see others having such bad relationship problems, makes me feel like my relationship isn't so bad after all.
You would think by now I'd be heading to bed to get some rest for the next work day. But no, I don't want to be left out. There's definitely more to see. Besides, I don't do anything else but go to work and come home. It's not as if I have kids to take up my time. I don't have a significant other around to complain. I have what you would call a part-time boyfriend. I don't exactly make friends, so I don't have a need for going out or talking on the phone..the only people who do call are my family members. So no, no way am I going to bed just yet...because all I'm waking up to tomorrow is just work, work, work.
10:30 I'm back to VH1 because I want to see more of what a bad friend Cheryl is to Sandy also known as Salt N' Pepa. Their relationship brings some insight as to why I don't keep girlfriends. 11pm and finally I have gotten up from that hole I dug into the couch. Now I'm killing time, getting in some stretches, straightening out the kitchen..but not for long. 11:30 and Chelsey Lately just started. Oh the humor. I sit here by myself and I laugh and stare at my Television set. Not very many things make me laugh, but this show brings a different kind of humor.
So, why do I spend so much time watching TV? Because If I didn't, I would feel empty, void, useless, non-existent, defeated, incomplete, angry, lonely, have no form of comprehension of life and so many other things that could potentially make me non-human. And yeah, I watch TV so that I can keep certain things and certain people off of my mind. But such is the reason for so many of us.
Wait: don't think that for one second that after 'Chelsey Lately' that I'm going to bed. I'm switching to HGTV at 12am because I want to see Design to sell. I like to pretend I'm the designer.
