About PETA's "Kentucky Fried Cruelty" campaign

Advisory Council" in response, but nothing came of their efforts. Adele Douglass, former member of the council, told the Chicago Tribune, "(Kentucky Fried Chicken) never had any meetings. They never asked any advice, and then they touted to the press that they had this animal-welfare advisory committee. I felt like I was being used."

PETA would like KFC to move toward a better set of care standards to improve the quality of life for chickens, which would include decreasing the waste in which they live and providing a more humane method of slaughter. Currently, birds are often killed by being dunked in scalding water while fully conscious.

The activists are also trying to minimize the chances that abusive slaughterhouse workers have to hurt the birds, citing the possibility that mechanized chicken gathering may help. Reducing workers' contact with the chickens would prevent broken wings and legs that are inflicted when they are carelessly thrown or stuffed into cages.

Several celebrities have joined in the fight against animal cruelty, and you can, too. Visit PETA.org to find out what you can do to help.

The next time you "feel like chicken tonight," consider where the bird came from. When you think about stopping at Kentucky Fried Chicken, drive on - they do chickens wrong.
