PETA is a household name; everyone knows who they are, but hopefully most people have been spared from some of their crazy, in-your-face tactics. Understandably, they want to bring an end to animal cruelty - and while that's a good cause in itself, they go all-out to shock and horrify people.

Take a look at their latest-and-greatest attack - it's on the poultry industry. Sure, it's nice that they want to help chickens, but I hate the way they go about it. Here are the facts of how chickens get treated when they go to slaughter; they may be inappropriate for younger readers, but you'll find the truths are not quite as horrifying as watching a crazy, shaking PETA video camera will have you believe.

Imagine, if you will, living in a shed. Not just an ordinary, every-day shed, but one jam-packed with ten thousand others just like you. You won't have much room to move, but since your legs are broken and deformed, it's not that bad. The odor in the shed is incredible; waste fumes permeate every square inch of air. You are given drugs to make your chest and leg muscles swell to unnatural proportions while you run the risk of starving or drowning in a pool of filthy water that you were meant to drink.

It's a horrible, nauseating scenario - yet every day, Kentucky Fried Chicken buys birds from suppliers who subject them to these conditions throughout their entire 45-day life cycle. While it seems unbelievable, this is not a crime. It is fully legal to treat chickens this way - chickens who are bred solely to be eaten by KFC customers all over the world.

PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) has launched a global campaign to help raise the standards for these unscrupulous chicken factories. "Kentucky Fried Cruelty" is responsible for staging several undercover investigations that catch depraved and pitiless animal handlers in the act.

Many slaughterhouse workers have been caught on video abusing the chickens they "care" for. Some of these disturbing films and several still photos are available to be viewed at KentuckyFriedCruelty.com. The images included are very graphic and not for the faint of heart. They showcase a disturbing view of what life is really like for these chickens; they are stomped on, thrown against walls, and have had tobacco spit and spray paint put in their eyes.

The animal rights group has issued requests to Kentucky Fried Chicken that they adopt more humane standards for their chickens. The fast-food behemoth formed an "Animal Welfare Advisory
