If you fly into Ronald Reagan Airport in the Washington D.C. area, you will drive out of the airport and directly into Crystal City. Crystal City is one of the most designed cities in the area. The buildings are aesthetically pleasant with both form and function put into their design. They house businesses, high-end apartments, and office buildings. The unique thing about Crystal City is the cleanliness and the friendliness of the people who live and work there. A visit to this city will have you in awe of how a fairly large city can have the reputation of being so clean and friendly.
The unique thing about Crystal City is that most of the shops and restaurants are below the ground. There is a mall that is not in sight of the street. The stores have window displays at the street level but the actual businesses are underground. I didn't realize how much the corporate world flooded our viewing on the streets with advertisements. It was nice to see only a few high end restaurants on street level and not have to see the strip malls and other eyesores that are around the rest of the country. In Crystal City you actually feel safe walking around at night though D.C. and Arlington are just a few miles away.
Crystal City also has a Metro Station located conveniently in the center. From here you can catch the sites of D.C. and visit monuments in Arlington, Georgetown, the Pentagon, or even the Smithsonian Museum. During the day the commute is very quick and it is not to crowded except at the rush hours. The Metro is easy to use and you can buy tickets from vending machines using credit cards or cash. You just slide your ticket through an electronic reader and the turn style will open for you. You can put as much money on a ticket as you wish and use it over and over as you travel around the D.C. area.
Parking is great in Crystal City. There is plenty of pay to park garages that are secure and have easy access to the street or underground mall. There are quite a few valet parking areas in front of the street side restaurants or for the underground mall. The street is lined with parking meters and they are always parking places available within a few blocks of your destination.
