Teachers should pursue their Master's degree for themselves. Teachers are paragons of learning. They constantly preach the importance of education to their students. Yet, they themselves do not always practice what they preach. Teachers need to continue to learn so they can portray themselves as lifelong learners to their students. Pursuing a Master's degree is one way to do this.
In addition, the field of education is always changing and evolving. Pursuing a Master's degree helps keep teachers informed of the changes. It keeps teacher's aware of new discoveries and innovations in education. Furthermore, it is a way to stay revitalized. It gives teachers the opportunities to talk and share with other teachers. Furthermore, it gives them the opportunity to improve themselves by learning more about how to teach. Any teacher that says they are done with learning is done with teaching.
Furthermore, continuing for a Master's degree will require them to stay immersed in their content area. One of the biggest problems with teachers is content knowledge. If you are constantly using it you will loose it. For instance, I am a math teacher and was asked to take over a calculus class last year. I haven't done calculus in a while so I took a class as a part of my Master's program so I could refresh myself. The other math classes that I have taken enhanced my math knowledge and helped me understand the bigger picture when I am teaching. All of these things are improving myself. I know that I am doing everything I can to be a good teacher. Going to school for a Master's degree is something that teacher's should do for themselves.
