It is unethical for any convicted criminal to profit from selling a jailhouse story. To see someone who probably has more in her piggy bank than most would earn in a year, gain more than what most will save in a lifetime from breaking the law, is ludicrous.
What does such actions say about the judicial system and laws that govern America? It's OK to break the law if you are rich and famous, we will have to slap you on the wrist eventually but don't worry you can sell your story?
Personally I am rather oblivious to the antics of Hollywood. I have no real clues as to what the jailhouse story might entail, though I am tipping there will be no startling revelations in there. I say this quite confidently.
I don't believe that Paris really has learnt anything from this experience. If she had, she would have stayed there for the duration of her term. Let's face it, there was no huge gap in her life that she missed out on. Her time behind bars doesn't account for even 1% of her life.
Really it could have been a perfect opportunity for her to address the direction in life she is heading and change course to a more productive life. Had this revelation really occurred, she would not even consider such a payment for her story. But I doubt this would happen.
No criminal, famous or otherwise should be able to make a profit directly from their experience in jail. If jail is able to have a positive life changing effect on people, then this is fantastic. These stories should be shared, but they should not glorified. As with all things Paris I am sure her story will be highly glorified and this is not the correct image to be sending out.
If perhaps she was donating all profits to a charitable cause for drink driving or re-socializing ex-cons, then maybe payment would be acceptable. Again though, I seriously doubt this is the case as well.
I think there is another question which also needs to be debated here, should NBC even bother to air her story?
